Description
William Linthicum-Blackhorse – Inipi Wayajopi for Flute Choir and/or Voice. This piece is designed to engage the performer in the purification “sweat-lodge ceremony,” called an Inip̄i, by acting out the different sounds that occur as well as playing traditional Lakȯ tā melodies. Enveloping the audience in the sounds of a sweatlodge, absent of light and outside influences, provides a glimpse into a very protected world of indigenous spirituality. in no way does this performance enact the real ceremonial experience of the sweat-lodge, rather it gives renewed perspective of an often misunderstood and misused spiritual practice.
