Description
The existence of Florence B. Price’s Moods has long been known, but until recentlyall the known autographs (sources C1 through D2 in this edition) were fragmentary anddid not permit a reliable reconstruction. That changed in 2023, when Dr. Paul Kratoskapurchased a Chicago apartment previously owned by clarinetist Casja Ilo. In theapartment Kratoska found two previously unknown, and invaluable, sources for Moods:a complete fair-copy autograph score bound and inscribed by the composer (source A)and a separately written-out autograph piano part based on that score (source B). Hedonated these to the Special Collections division of the University of Arkansas Libraries,Fayetteville – and in so doing made it possible for Moods finally to be published, nearlyeighty years after it was completed.
