PRELUDEFOREIGHT for saxophone ensemble was written at the request of Mr. William Calkins of the music department at California State University, Northridge, who, finding a need for chamber music for saxophones, called on Richard Shores.This work for eight players was specifically modeled as a study in expressive flowing lines within a contemporary framework. The result is a piece of delicate textures that requires sensitive phrasing, a careful blending of instruments, and demanding a mutual feeling for ensemble.Instrumentation:
